On the surface, Nicki Minaj and Aretha Franklin probably don’t have a lot in common, but these two artist now share one very distinct accolade.
Per Billboard, Minaj tied Franklin with her 73rd Top 100 hit, coming off of Gucci Mane’s latest hit, “Make Love.”
The honor does come with an asterisk, as Minaj has been credited as a lead artist on just 29 of her entries while Franklin boasted a perfect 73 songs as the lead artist. Franklin, aka the Queen of Soul, tallied 17 top-10 hits–including two No. 1 singles in “Respect” and “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).”
With all due respect to Nicki, it’s tough to compete beat for beat with the likes of The Queen of Soul.
Although she is atop the list, for now, Nicki will need to keep an eye out for Taylor Swift (70 Top 100 hits) and Rhianna (58) who just recently passed Madonna.
It appears that Nicki has more than just a Remy Ma diss track to worry about.
