If You're Celebrating National Garlic Day, Here's How to Beat Garlic Breath

National Garlic Day is April 19th, and you'll probably want to celebrate accordingly.

We're thinking garlic mashed potatoes, chicken, and truffle fries. But after all of that goodness, you're going to be left with one unpleasant thing: bad breath. If you don't want to clear the room as soon as you start talking, here are some tips for banishing garlic breath:

  • Chew raw lettuce, raw apples, or mint leaves: These foods are shown to help decrease the potency of odors on your breath and on your skin.
  • Brush your teeth: While this doesn't help with the odor and bad breath situation, it prevents any small particles from lingering.
  • Eating basil and parsley: Foods containing basil and parsley might also help to diminish the unpleasant side effects of your delicious meal.
  • Whole milk: Studies show that the fat in whole milk can keep odors from sticking around in your mouth.

One thing to note about these remedies: you'll want to get to them ASAP. Once you metabolize the garlic, the odors can stick around for up to two days.
