(Photo by Christopher Furlong/Getty Images)The brutal and tragic murder of 15-year-old Lesandro ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz last month has pushed New York lawmakers, Senator Luis Sepúlveda and Assemblyman Victor Pichardo, to propose the Safe Havens for Endangered Children Legislation or "Junior's Law."
Part of the legislation would require small businesses to keep first aid kits on hand and to require small businesses to be safe havens for minors. Senator Supulveda explained, “We need to ensure that businesses are equipped to help those who are injured to save lives.”
If passed, the new legislation would also change the education laws to establish safe walking home zones -- local chambers of commerce would construct these pathways to and from schools.
