Man Wins $289 Million Because Weedkiller Gave Him Cancer

Man wins $289 million against Monsanto’s Roundup.

A jury in San Francisco ruled in favor of Dewayne Johnson, claiming the weedkiller gave him cancer.

Johnson is a former groundskeeper at a local school and was said to use the chemical mixture, Roundup, 20-30 times annually. The 46-year-old developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma and received $39 million in damages and $250 million in punitive damages.

This case has now set a precedent for thousands of other cases alike against Monsanto.

Since the hearing, Monsanto denies that Roundup or an active ingredient, glyphosate in the mixture causes cancer and plan to appeal.
