Roy Cooper, the governor of North Carolina, has declared a state of emergency in preparation for Hurricane Michael.

The storm is currently expected to make landfall as a Category 4 storm along the Florida panhandle later today.

At this strength, it will become the most intense hurricane to ever strike near Panama City Beach, Florida.

According to ABC 11, Michael will have life-threatening implications in Florida related to a storm surge, strong winds and heavy rain. The storm is expected to travel north and reach Georgia by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, and travel through the Carolinas on Thursday.

In Fayetteville, residents can expect damage related to strong winds and heavy downpours.

The Fayetteville Police Department is urging residents to get prepared for the possibility of power outages and storm damage.
