Over the weekend, the R&B singer tweeted that the album will drop in May.
Although the wait is almost over, Lennox is currently frustrated that it’s been almost three years since she first signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville imprint and her debut album isn’t out.
“Everything happens for a reason,” Lennox said during an exclusive interview with Billboard, “and I feel like it makes me stronger. But I’m also just like, ‘Yo, it’s time for this project to drop.’ ”
“R&B just takes some time to bubble,” Lennox’s longtime manager Justin LaMotte said. “Ari’s on a hip-hop label, but she doesn’t need to release music as rapidly as her labelmates. We can move at our own pace.”
“A lot of these songs I’ve been holding on to for a long time,” said Lennox. “I just want the world to hear them. And then, finally, I can exhale.”

Lennox is currently also gearing up for her Shea Butter Baby tour, which is already halfway sold out and kicks off on May 12. As Lennox treks across the nation, she’ll be stopping in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Detroit, New Orleans, New York City, and Charlotte, among others.
