LL Cool J, Mary Blige Appear In American Cancer Society Campaign
“Beat cancer like a boss.”
That’s the American Cancer Society’s new campaign mantra, and LL Cool J and his wife, along with others from the hip-hop community are championing the cause.
The campaign ad features Meek Mill’s “I’m a Boss,” and celebrities like Mary J. Blige, Jhene Aiko, Remy Ma, Salt-n-Pepa, Jordan Sparks, and Karreuche share inspirational messages to those currently battling cancer.
“Boss is battling cancer by finding your inner strength,” Simone I. Smith, LL Cool J’s wife of 24 years, says in the video. “Cancer left its mark, but it couldn’t beat the boss within.” In 2004, Smith was diagnosed with rare bone cancer, stage III chondrosarcoma. Today, the jewelry designer celebrates almost 15 years of being free of cancer.
“With the help of ACS and a few friends, this campaign was created to empower women to lean onto their support system and tap into their strength to ‘Beat Cancer Like a Boss,’ a message I carried with me throughout my journey to recovery,” said Smith in a statement.
The campaign ad also features Smith’s “Boss” nameplate necklace that’s available via her jewelry line, Simone I. Smith.
