Mathew Knowles Invites Destiny Child Members To Contribute To His Upcoming DC Musical
Earlier this week, Mathew Knowles announced that he’s currently working on a Destiny’s Child musical, and now he’s revealed that he has reached out to the members of the best-selling girl group to contribute to it.

“We have directly and indirectly spoken to — not only Beyoncé, Kelly [Rowland] and Michelle [Williams] or their representatives — but also some of the former members of the group,” Knowles, 67, told Page Six. “We’ve given them the opportunity to be as much involved as they’d like, or [have] as little involvement as they’d like.”
On Tuesday (Apr. 23), Knowles announced on Instagram and his website that he and director Je’Caryous Johnson are collaborating on the musical titled “Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical.”
The production is still in its early stages and the script isn’t finished yet, but Knowles thinks that Beyonce, Rowland, and Williams won’t push back too much once the script is complete.
“Everybody understands this is my perspective, not their perspective,” he said. “The girls were very young when they got into this business, so a lot of this perspective, they didn’t really understand.”
Destiny’s Child was formed in 1990, originally going by the group name Girl’s Tyme, and Knowles managed the group since its inception.
The music executive said that he’s working on getting the script finalized so that if the original members “want to review it, they can review it,” adding, “I wouldn’t want to put anything out that didn’t have everyone’s support.”
Although the musical will cover Destiny’s Child’s tumultuous changes, Knowles stated that it will also focus on his experience of managing the group while also trying to raise Solange.
“[Solange] wasn’t getting attention because Destiny’s Child was, kind of, consuming the family,” Knowles said. “So [the musical] takes you through the ups and downs of a family, as well as Destiny’s Child’s ups and downs. You will be awakened with information that I think possibly surprises you.”
He said that both Solange and his ex-wife, Tina Knowles Lawson are aware of the “Survivor” and they’re also looking forward to seeing what the script will look like.
Knowles will also be releasing the very first album that Destiny’s Child made.
“The first album they made was back in 1992, 1993, so we’ll be simultaneously releasing that album along with the musical,” he said.
