The charges came on Thursday (May 30), four of the aggravated criminal sexual assault charges are felony “Class X” counts, which are the most serious in Illinois, outside of first-degree murder, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The new charges carry a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years. Earlier this year, the "I Believe I Can Fly" singer-songwriter was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving four victims. Three of those victims were underage when the abuse took place
The new charges are related to an incident that took place in January 2010, but it's unclear whether or not the incident involves any of the same victims.
Kelly's attorney Steve Greenberg hasn't yet reviewed any of the court documents, but he was notified of the new charges.
“We’ll see what the charges are, and we’ll proceed accordingly,” Greenberg told the Sun-Times. “I know this much: It’s old. They’re allegations from years ago.”
