According to CNBC, one of the most notorious drug lords of our time has been sentenced to life in prison during a hearing in Brooklyn. The Mexican kingpin was ordered to surrender $12.6 billion. It hasn’t been reported where that money will go.
Earlier this year, El Chapo was recognized as the head of the Sinaloa Cartel which is known as “the most powerful drug trafficking syndicate in the Western Hemisphere.” He was convicted for heading a criminal operation that funneled large amounts of heroine and methamphetamine into the United States. The Kingpin’s trial lasted for three months and ended in February of this year.
His ability to escape authorities undetected has made him a legend.
