Riquna Williams, Los Angeles Sparks’ Point Guard Suspended Ten Games For Domestic Violence
Los Angeles Sparks point guard Riquna Williams has been suspended without pay for ten games as a result of a domestic violence incident.
The WNBA made the announcement on Tuesday. On April 29, 2019, she was arrested and charged with two felony counts, one involving the assault of her ex-girlfriend and the other regarding threats that were made to another person with a firearm.
Williams’ criminal case is ongoing. The WNBA consulted with a panel of experts in the field of domestic violence and conducted its own internal investigation regarding the incident. The league interviewed Williams and several witnesses during their investigation.
As a result of the investigation and consultation, the WNBA decided that a ten-game suspension was appropriate for Williams. The WNBA also took into consideration that a firearm was involved. Williams is also required to participate in counseling, and her suspension will begin on Thursday’s (July 18) game against the Dallas Wings.
