A$AP Rocky Released From Custody In Sweden While Awaiting Trial Verdict
A Swedish judge has ruled that A$AP Rocky and his two associates don’t need to remain in custody while awaiting their verdict, which will takes place on Wednesday, August 14 regarding their trial over assault charges in Stockholm, the Washington Post reports.
Rocky and the two other men are now free to leave Sweden, as one of the defense attorneys confirmed, but it’s unclear whether or not they plan to.
As the proceedings came to a close, Rocky’s mother cried while the rapper comforted her. If the three men are found guilty, they could face up to two years in prison.
A$AP Rocky, 30, whose given name is Rakim Mayers, was arrested along with his two associates, Bladimir Emilio Corniel, and David Tyrone Rispers in early July by Swedish law enforcement on charges of violent assault that stemmed from a street brawl that took place on June 30 with Mustafa Jafari, 19.
Ahead of his trial, Rocky pleaded not guilty and a defense attorney confirmed that no new evidence could be used to impact the verdict.
On Friday, a prosecutor argued that the Harlem rapper should be punished more severely than his two friends.
“I have been a lawyer for 20 years, and I have never had a client who has been so scared,” Jafari’s counsel said. “He feels no resentment toward any of the accused, but justice must be served,” he continued.
The 19-year-old was beaten so badly that he lay in the street unconscious after the alleged assault took place, according to one witness.
However, one of the defense attorneys, Carla Pantzar, aggressively attacked Jafari, saying: “The plaintiff is lying, and the only time he is not lying is when he refuses to answer.”
The Stockholm District Court, where the trial began on Tuesday (July 30), was lined with dozens of fans of Rocky and journalists.
