R. Kelly ‘Refused Transport’ And Missed A Court Date

Embattled singer R. Kelly didn't show up to a Cook County courtroom regarding the various sexual abuse charges that were brought against the singer and songwriter. 

On Thursday morning (Aug. 15), Kelly, 52, reportedly "refused transport" from the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago to the Leighton Criminal Court Building, reports Vibe.

The singer's attorney Steve Greenberg said the U. S. Marshall Service has shared that they're frustrated regarding transporting Kelly.

However, Greenberg didn't share the details with the court. “Suffice it to say that the Marshals Service said moving Mr. Kelly is a large undertaking," Greenberg said.

The "Down Low" singer was indicted by federal prosecutors for allegedly arranging sexual experiences with minors and then conspiring to hide it.

Cook County officials were the first to charge the troubled singer and songwriter with sexual abuse of three women, who were minors during the time of the abuse, back in February.

New York prosecutors charged the singer with one count of racketeering and four counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits sex trafficking across state lines, in July.

The New York indictment involves five alleged victims, which includes three minors.

R. Kelly was arrested in the Windy City on July 12 and has been held without bond at Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center.

Kelly has remained in solitary confinement, and according to Greenberg, the singer is miserable.

"He’s not a fighter. I’ve seen him cry when he talks about the situation,” Greenberg said.
