SHELTER ANNOUNCEMENTS
CLOSINGS
- BUSINESSES
- Murchison Road Community Farmers’ Market will be closed Wednesday.
- Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union is closed as of noon, Thursday.
- SCHOOLS
- The Cumberland County Schools will be closed Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6 for all students and staff. This includes Prime Time and all after-school activities. Wednesday, October 16 will now be a full day of school and Monday, October 21 will be a make-up day.
- Bladen County Schools will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday.
- Hoke County has cancelled school on Thursday, Sept. 5, and schools will operate on a 3-hour delay on Friday. Buses will begin routes at 9 a.m. on Friday. All after-school activities have been cancelled on Wednesday.
- Robeson County Schools will release at 1 p.m. Wednesday. All school campuses will close at 2, and the Central Office will close at 3 p.m. All after school activities are canceled. School is closed for students and staff Thursday. School is closed for students Friday, and there will be an optional teacher workday with three-hour delay Friday.
- Sampson County Schools has cancelled all after-school activities on Wednesday. School will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, and information regarding Friday will be posted as it becomes available.
- Harnett County Schools are closed Thursday, no afterschool activities
- Moore County Schools are closed Thursday
- Fort Bragg DODEA schools are closed Thursday
- COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
- Methodist University has canceled all classes, campus and sports events for the remainder of this week. Residence halls will reopen at noon Sunday. The university will remain open and operate on a normal schedule until further notice.
- FTCC Administration announces that the College will be closed Thursday, September 5th due to the threat of severe weather expected to impact our area. Students are reminded to log into Blackboard to check for assignment instructions/information regarding their classes.
- Southeastern Community College will be closed from Wednesday, September 4 at 12:00 Noon through Sunday, September 8, 2019 due to potential inclement weather from Hurricane Dorian. The college will reopen on Monday, September 9.
- UNC Pembroke is closed Thursday
- Fayetteville State University will close until Monday, September 9.
- Robeson Community College is closed Thursday
- Sandhills Community College is closed Thursday
- Central Carolina Community College is closed Thursday
- Campbell University – Camp Lejeune campus will be closed this Thursday and Friday. Offices at Pope Air Force Base will be closed at noon on Wednesday, and classes will be relocated to the Fort Bragg campus. Classes and offices at the Fort Bragg campus will remain on a normal schedule, as will main campus and Raleigh campus.

How Well Do You Know Severe Weather Situations?
Fact: Hurricane season is June 1-November 30, but the peak season is between mid-August and late October.
Basic preparedness tips:
- Know where you’re going. If you have to evacuate, know the correct route to take and know where you can stay.
- Have access to a radio for news and weather updates.
- Have a go-bag containing: flashlights, batteries, cash, first aid supplies, medications, and copies of critical information if you need to evacuate.
- If you’re in an area that doesn’t have to evacuate, plan ahead for possible power and water loss. Make sure you have all the supplies you’ll need if you are unable to leave your home due to flooding or blocked roads.
- Have a family emergency communication plan
- Find out if your area has text or email alert systems for emergency notifications.
Preparing Your Home:
- Trim or remove damaged trees and limbs to keep you and your property safe.
- Secure loose rain gutters and clear any clogged areas to prevent water damage to your property.
- Make sure your roof, windows, and doors – including the garage doors – are secure.
- Purchase a portable generator to use during power outages. Remember to keep generators and other alternate power/heat sources outside at least 20 feat away from windows and doors and protected from moisture. NEVER attempt to power your house wiring by plugging a generator into a wall outlet.
- Be sure to have a battery operated radio.
The Hurricane is 6 hours from arriving…what should you do?
- If you’re not evacuating, plan to stay at home or wherever your are and let friends and family know your location.
- Close storm shutters and stay away from windows.
- Turn your refrigerator/freezer to the coldest setting and only open when absolutely necessary. If you lose power, your food will last longer.
- Turn on your radio to stay updated on the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
- Charge your cell phone so you’ll have full battery in case of power loss.
