Evening Update: Cumberland County Not on Curfew, 119 People in Shelters
The following is a joint Cumberland County-City of Fayetteville update for Hurricane Dorian on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019:
Rumor Control: There is NO curfew in effect for the City or the County.
Parks and Recreation:
- The Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks Division has essential crews on standby to assist as needed with storm damage.
- The Fayetteville-Cumberland Recreation offices, facilities and activities are closed/cancelled until further notice and will reopen when it is safe to do so.
FAST Bus Service: FAST Transit is planning to begin regular bus service on Friday, Sept. 6 at noon, weather permitting.
Garbage Pickup:
- Friday’s garbage pickup will take place tomorrow as scheduled. For Friday’s pickup, residents are asked to place their carts at the curb on Friday by 7 a.m., but to NOT place carts at the curb this evening as we are expecting high winds during the evening hours.
- Thursday’s garbage pickup that was supposed to be picked up today will be picked up on Saturday. Residents are asked to place carts at the curb by 7 a.m.
- Bulky Item pickup, Yard Waste pickup and Cart Deliveries will NOT take place on Friday, Sept. 6 or Saturday, Sept. 7.
Shelter Count
As of 8 p.m. today, there are 119 people and 7 pets signed into the following Cumberland County emergency shelters:
- Smith Recreation Center: 83 occupants; shelter capacity is 100
- South View High School: 36 occupants; shelter capacity is 310
Cumberland County Landfill Hours for Friday
The Cumberland County landfill and container sites will be open Friday from noon to 4 p.m. The landfills and sites will have extended hours on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
