The U.S. Census Bureau still needs hundreds of workers in Cumberland County for temporary jobs in advance of the 2020 Census. To aggressively recruit more workers, the pay rate has increased to $17 an hour. Census takers also receive reimbursement for work-related mileage and expenses.
You can apply for a job during a Census Employment Blitz on Feb. 28 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Headquarters Library Branch, 300 Maiden Lane, Fayetteville. The N.C. Works Mobile Unit will be parked in front of the library with 10 computers so folks can apply for jobs and receive information about how to be counted for the Census.
In addition, Headquarters Library will provide laptops in its training lab during the blitz so people can apply inside as well.
To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number and pass a background check.
Census Day is April 1, 2020. The Census is used to determine how much federal funding goes to communities and states. The count also determines how many representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives each state gets.
