With the spread of the coronavirus continuing to dominate the news, many people are looking for ways to help prevent the spread of germs including making their own hand sanitizer. However, if you think you can make your own hand sanitizer from vodka, think again.
A Twitter user shared yesterday (March 5), "Bout to go get me a handle of @TitosVodka and make some hand sanitizer for my family." Tito's Vodka responded to that user's tweet with the following very helpful information:
"Per the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 'washing hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs in most situations. If soap and water are not readily available, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. You can tell if the sanitizer contains at least 60% alcohol by looking at the product label.' Tito's Handmade Vodka is 40% alcohol, and therefore does not meet the current recommendation of the CDC."
As many people pointed out on Twitter, if you're really looking to make your own hand sanitizer from booze, Everclear, whose abv ranges from 60-95 percent, is likely your best bet.
