The NCAA Men's and Women's basketball tournaments have been canceled.
"Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities."
Hockey, baseball, softball and lacrosse are among the other championships that will be canceled.

Two of the top universities in the country - when it comes to basketball at least - have announced suspension of their athletic programs, further raising doubts about whether the NCAA Tournament will be played.
Duke and Kansas have both announced indefinite suspensions of all athletic activities due to coronavirus concerns. Kansas is currently the No. 1 team in the USA Today's men's basketball poll and Duke is at No. 10. Both were widely considered to be among the top seeds in the tournament.
The NCAA has already announced that the tournament would be held, but with only essential staff and limited families in attendance. Much has happened in the sports world since that announcement yesterday, however, as the NBA and NHL have announced suspensions of their seasons.
