“Oh, you got plans? Don’t say that.” This Sunday, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak do have plans: they are going to debut their new band, Silk Sonic, at The Grammys.
After Bruno Mars tweeted an open letter to the Recording Academy saying, “Dear Grammys, if you could see it in your hearts to allow two out of work musicians to perform at your show, we would really appreciate it.” Their first song, “Leave The Door Open” has become an instant favorite of the collab.
Mars added, “We haven’t been able to perform for a while and we just want to sing.”
Bruno ends the note “I hope you’ll consider this request and give us the opportunity to shine. Love, Silk Sonic.”
Then the Academy responded playfully back and agreed to them performing this Sunday on Twitter!
“We have been trying to call you all week. Have you changed your numbers? We would love for #silksonic to make their TV debut at the #GRAMMYs. Are you free this Sunday night? Follow back and we will DM for details.”

Mars and .Paak couldn’t be more thrilled, taking to Twitter to share their excitement:
😭😭 😭 I’m walking out the store with these im sorry https://t.co/ggMbe0h4E5— Anderson .Blacked (@AndersonPaak) March 10, 2021
The duo have been jokingly fighting with each other on social media where .Paak said he was “embarrassed af” about promoting the single and suggested that “maybe it’s best we go our separate ways.” That is, until they got the green light from the Recording Academy to perform:
Maybe for one night we can put our differences aside and reunite. Not as foes but as friends. “Silk Sonic” on 3? https://t.co/oGAVAvXkNE— Bruno Mars (@BrunoMars) March 10, 2021
The song and the video have a decidedly early ’70s soul/R&B vibe to them.
