Snoop Dogg Says Jay-Z Threatened To End NFL Partnership
This year’s Super Bowl Halftime show featured an all-hip-hop act for the first time ever in NFL history. The Dr. Dre led performance included Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and special guest 50 Cent. The performance, to say the least, was memorable for hip-hop fans. But what many fans don’t know was that Jay-Z, who serves as the NFL’s entertainment and social justice partner, threatened to end his partnership with the league if the league interfered too much with the performance, according to Snoop.
“We love each other. Like, not secretly, like publicly, we love each other. It is what it is, so it’s like for him to go to bat for us and tell the NFL, ‘F— that. They perform or I quit,’ that was the most gangster s— out of everything,” Snoop recalled of the conversation he had with Jay before he took the stage per HotNewHipHop. “Then with attire and kneeling and all this … you can’t wear your gang bang s—? JAY-Z hit me like, ‘Wear what the f— you want to wear. Peace to the Gods.’”
Right after the Halftime performance, Dr. Dre spoke to TMZ about what role the NFL played in censoring their act.
“There were a few things that we had to change, but it was like really minor things,” he explained to the outlet. “Em taking the knee that was him doing that on his own and there was no problem with that.”
