Gunna, who has been named in a grand jury indictment, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, his lawyer Steven H. Sadow told Pitchfork.
“The Court was obviously concerned about threats and intimidation of witnesses,” Sadow wrote per the outlet. “We believe when the Court hears evidence, not just the words of the prosecutor, it will find that Sergio’s release on bond will not, directly or indirectly, pose a significant risk to witnesses. We look forward to having an evidentiary hearing on this as soon as the Court permits.”
The rapper, whose real name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, has also been denied bond with a trial date set for Monday, January 9, 2023.
In the indictment, it is alleged that Young Thug’s label YSL (Young Stoner Life Records) is a criminal street gang. Rapper Young Thug has been charged with conspiracy to violate the RICO Act as well as seven additional felony charges outside of the RICO case. Thug (born Jeffery Lamar Williams) has a hearing on his bond request on June 2 according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
