The second half of the year is kicking off with the bang in North Carolina, as the Mega Millions jackpot has skyrocketed up to $370 million.

And if a lucky player in the North Carolina Education Lottery were to win that jackpot Tuesday night, they'd have the choice of that $370 million as an annuity, or a measly $213.3 million in cash.

"What a choice that would be − $370 million or $213 million," said Mark Michalko, executive director of the N.C. Education Lottery. "Either win would make the Summer of 2022 a summer to remember. Good luck to all of our Mega Millions players."

The last winner of the Mega Millions jackpot was back on April 15 in Tennessee, where someone won $20 million. Every drawing since then it has gone up, and is now in obscene territory of $370 million.

While the odds of winning are just 1 in 302.5 million, that's still better odds than some other things. And somebody's gotta win it eventually.

A Harnett County resident won $30,000 in Friday's drawing, from a $3 Megaplier ticket purchased through online play.

Players can buy North Carolina Mega Millions tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, www.nclottery.com, or with the lottery’s app, the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

Ticket sales from draw games make it possible for the lottery to raise more than $900 million a year for education. For details on how lottery funds have made a difference in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, click on the “Impact” section of the lottery’s website.
