‘P-Valley’ Docuseries ‘Down In The Valley’ Hits Starz Early
Season two of Starz P-Valley wrapped almost two years ago, and soon, fans of the show will be getting a season three. Showrunner Katori Hall has started production in Atlanta and has even promoted three actors to series regulars. Now, Starz is moving up the premiere date for its latest docuseries, Down in the Valley.
The first episode of the P-Valley-inspired series will now be available to watch on Friday on the Starz app rather than the previously announced July 5 debut.
The Wrap reported that episode one, “Diamonds of Memphis,” will be available to watch on the app on June 28 starting at midnight. It’s worth noting that this scheduling change won’t apply to linear viewership. The pilot will still premiere on the premium network on July 5 at 9 p.m. ET in the United States and will be followed by Episode 2.
What to expect from P-Valley-inspired docuseries Down in the Valley?
Hosted and executive produced by Nicco Annan, best known as Uncle Clifford in Starz’s P-Valley, the six-episode, half-hour docuseries follows Annan as he explores the people, sensuality, music, culture, and stories of the South.
The show covers a variety of topics, including strip clubs, sex workshops, and ancient hoodoo rituals. According to a press release, “The series confronts uncomfortable truths, challenges societal norms, and advocates for a more inclusive and enlightened future.”
While many fans are excited for the docuseries, some would rather dip straight into season three of P-Valley. Someone commented on the show’s Instagram announcement saying, “I’m not restarting my subscription for this. I need season 3.” Another person said, “Raise your hand if you asked for a documentary, I’ll wait. NOBODY!!! Open the Pink back up please and thank you.” One person jokingly said, “I need y’all to be down in production to release season 3 and nothing more.”
Either way, it’s happening. Take a look at the trailer below featuring Nicco Annan.
Season three of P-Valley
The second season of P-Valley concluded in August 2022. However, due to the strikes last year, the writing and production of the series were delayed. Per PEOPLE, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced that their months-long strike had come to an end after 148 days.
The labor union representing more than 1,000 entertainment writers, who work across film, television, news, and online media voted to end the writers’ strike on the morning of Sept. 27, 2023.
