What Is Dirty Myrtle Wing Company Bringing To Fayetteville?

Located just off Kings Highway South, Dirty Myrtle Wing Company has quickly become a favorite among Myrtle Beach locals and visitors alike since its opening in the summer of 2023. In an interview with The Fayetteville Observer, Dirty Myrtle owner Troy Bennett spoke on what sets his restaurant apart from other eateries.

"We're not a normal wing place," Bennett said. "Nobody else can offer what we can offer."

And what Dirty Myrtle offers is fresh, hand-battered wings with a variety of uniquely named sauces. This includes a tangy "Carolina Neesh Neesh" sauce, as well as a "White Girl Wasted" dry rub.

In addition to wings, Dirty Myrtle also offers delicious smash burgers, hot dogs, fried seafood, and a plethora of appetizers. Bennett has confirmed that the food menu for the Fayetteville restaurant will be a 1:1 copy of his Myrtle Beach location.

The restaurant may sell beer and wine at a later date, but for now Bennett and his team are focusing on the food in the leadup to its grand opening in Fayetteville. See the full food menu here.

Origin Of National Chicken Wing Day

If you're only just now learning about National Chicken Wing Day, you may be surprised to learn that it's been an annual tradition for nearly 50 years. The holiday was established in 1977, when former mayor of Buffalo, New York Stan Makowski designated July 29 as the day Americans would celebrate the protein-packed snack.

Initially the holiday was meant to exclusively honor buffalo-flavored wings (which makes sense given the location of its founding), but has since expanded to celebrate wings of all flavors and rubs. Whether you're a fan of buffalo, garlic parmesan, or honey barbecue, National Chicken Wing Day is for you!

And yes, before you ask, boneless wings are just as valid as bone-in wings. This is a boneless-friendly space.

Popularity Of Chicken Wings

Despite coming from a notoriously flightless bird, chicken wings have soared in popularity over the years. Recent market research reveals a steep rise in global appeal for the finger food, and projects continued growth in demand over the next few years.

In an interview with USA Today, National Chicken Council spokesman Tom Super offered his take on why much of the country has become obsessed with chicken wings.

"No other part of the chicken comes close to be offered in so many tasty ways from mild to super spicy hot," said Super. "Wings continue to be a most affordable and popular luxury when dining-out or barbecuing on the home grill."
