Beyoncé Course Coming to Yale in 2025, Focused on Her Cultural Impact
Calling all Beyhive members! A Beyoncé focused class is coming to Yale University. It’s time to get formation and study all things going on with the Queen B herself!
Starting in their Spring 2025 semester, Yale will be introducing “Beyonce Makes History: Black Radical Tradition History, Culture, Theory & Politics Through Music.” Although she is known to be a great performer, the class will be taking a deep dive into her impact beyond just music.
According to the class description, the course will focus on and examine her impact on Black intellectual thought and activism. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen celebrities and pop culture being brought into the classroom. There are other courses available on entertainers like Taylor Swift.
Beyoncé Centered Course Coming to Yale
Throughout the semester, students will examine Beyoncé throughout her journey from her first solo albums to Cowboy Carter, but also her impact on politics and culture. They will study her impact in relation to black feminist theory, philosophy, anthropology, art history, performance studies, and musicology. Daphne Brooks, who co-founded Yale’s Black Sound & the Archive Working Group, will be the professor to teach the new course.
This is not the first Beyoncé influenced college course. Cornell University has offered a course called “Beyoncé Nation.” Other universities that have offered a Beyoncé themed course also include Rutgers University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Texas at San Antonio, California Polytechnic State University, and Arizona State University.
If you are thinking about attending Yale in the future, maybe you will get a chance to take this course and go into a bit of a deep dive into Beyoncé!
