Downtown Raleigh Offers Free Parking During Holiday Season
Starting November 15, 2024, Downtown Raleigh is implementing a pilot program offering two hours of free parking at five city-owned downtown parking decks. The program, running through January, aims to boost downtown business activity during the crucial holiday shopping season.
The free parking is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., excluding special events. After the initial two-hour period, standard rates of $2 per hour will apply, with a maximum of $14 for 24 hours.
Participating Locations
– Blount Street Deck (314 Blount St.)
– City Center Deck (429 S. Wilmington St.)
– Moore Square Deck (233 S. Wilmington St.)
– Municipal Complex Deck (201 W. Morgan St.)
– Wilmington Street Station Deck (117 S. Wilmington St.)
Business Accessibility
The two-hour window allows customers to:
– Have lunch and shop without feeling rushed
– Visit multiple businesses in one trip
– Enjoy downtown’s amenities more comfortably
Economic Impact
Local business owners are optimistic about the initiative. For retailers, the holiday season represents over 20% of yearly sales. The city estimates the program could have an annual impact of $170,444 if adopted permanently.
The initiative is part of Raleigh’s broader Downtown Economic Development Strategy, designed to revitalize the area and support local businesses. All participating decks will continue to offer free parking after 7 p.m. on weekdays and throughout weekends.
