It's quiet as of Saturday afternoon in the Sandhills, but don't let your guard down. The significant winter storm moving across the country is growing in size, and impacts will come to Fayetteville and the surrounding areas tonight and early tomorrow morning.

Currently, expectations of freezing rain leading to a quarter-inch or more of ice is likely for much of the area. Robeson County and areas to the North and West of there will see more. As you move toward the coast, ice accumulation should go down.

For the most part, the amount of ice doesn't matter much. It doesn't take much freezing rain to make travel conditions bad, and it takes even less for power lines and trees to be impacted.

Further to the West, the Charlotte area will see greater impacts from this storm. Down into South Carolina, the reliable "Waffle House Meter" is on high alert, as locations in Greenville and Spartanburg are reportedly closing.

With afternoon temperatures in Fayetteville already below freezing, conditions are prime for frozen precipitation to move in.
