Home Is Where the Heart Is happens at Cape Fear Botanical Garden, located at 536 N. Eastern Blvd. Doors swing open at 5 p.m. The program kicks off an hour later.
Rashad brought Claire Huxtable to life on "The Cosby Show," which ran eight seasons on NBC. She became a household name during the late 1980s as the wife of Bill Cosby's character Cliff Huxtable.
In 2004, she made history. Rashad became the first Black actress to claim a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, winning for A Raisin in the Sun. She sings and directs for the stage, too. She earned her degree from Howard University and calls actress and choreographer Debbie Allen her sister.
According to The Fayetteville Observer, this won't be her first time in Fayetteville. Back in 1984, she filmed Bob Hope's 84th birthday TV special at Pope Air Force Base. A year later, she wore the crown as Azalea Queen during Wilmington's 1985 Azalea Festival.
Dinner proceeds will support the nonprofit's local work. Tickets start at $125. They go on sale Friday Feb. 6 at fayettevillenchabitat.org. Only a limited number will be available.
Sponsorship opportunities run from $1,000 to $25,000. Contact fayettevillenchabitat.org or call 910-483-0952 for details.
