Mayor Sylvia Campbell believes this will expand operations at the airfield and draw more people to the area. The mayor's office sent a letter announcing the news.
"We would specifically like to thank U.S. Congressman David Rouzer for his support on this project. In addition, we would like to thank Electus Governmental Affairs for their support and guidance of our legislative requests," Mayor Campbell wrote in the press release.
The money will pay for upgrades. Officials released details through a press release after the bill passed earlier this month.
David Rouzer represents North Carolina's 7th Congressional District. He pushed hard to get the dollars approved. Electus Governmental Affairs assisted with paperwork and lobbying efforts tied to the application.
Curtis L. Brown Jr. Airport serves nearby towns and counties. Better runways, hangars, and equipment should attract more planes, according to local leaders.
This represents a big win. Infrastructure matters when you're trying to build an economy. Town leaders want travelers flooding through those gates within a few years, boosting revenue and creating jobs.
H.R. 7148 contained provisions for dozens of towns nationwide, helping communities repair roads, build facilities, and strengthen services. Congress passed it before the president signed off in early February.
