FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care will open its doors on April 24. Two free notarization events welcomed folks who need their health care power of attorney and living will documents notarized. No charge. The events run on April 16 and April 24.

The first event will be on April 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at FirstHealth Hospice, 251 Campground Rd. in West End. Attendees can stay in their cars while the staff comes to them.

The second event will happen on April 24 from noon to 2 p.m. at the FirstHealth Cancer Center at 135 Page Rd. N. in Pinehurst. Staff will set up in the Cancer Center's fourth-floor conference room.

"Creating a health care power of attorney and a living will helps ensure your care reflects your wishes—particularly if you're ever unable to speak for yourself," said Timothy Beittel, MD, medical director of FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care, according to Sandhills Sentinel. "These documents give your family clear guidance about your health care choices and can ease emotional strain and uncertainty during challenging moments."

Bring a valid photo ID. Also, bring completed but unsigned documents. Participants will sign the papers in front of a notary and two witnesses, making everything legal. Blank documents will sit ready if someone forgot theirs, and staff will answer questions on the spot.

Notarization is limited to one health care power of attorney and one living will per person. Anyone wanting more information can call (910) 715-3408.
