The Cumberland County Public Library's Local & State History Department will host programs celebrating America's 250th birthday, per the Cumberland County website. Activities kick off this month and run through the summer. They're free and focus on Revolutionary War history in the area.

An America 250 NC grant supports these events. Programs will feature learning experiences for history buffs, families, and people doing research.

The first event happens Thursday, April 9 at 6 p.m. at Game On! Cards and Coffee in Fayetteville. This multi-session role-playing tabletop game takes place during the Revolutionary era and requires registration.

Planned activities feature a virtual program about colonial recipes and food eaten during that time period. Colonial Day at Heritage Square will offer activities and demonstrations from Camp Flintlock. You must register for this event.

Other offerings feature a webinar on researching Revolutionary War ancestors and a lecture on the American Revolution in Cumberland County. The department plans guided bus tours of Revolutionary War sites across the county.

CCPL has planned other America 250 NC projects. A mural on the side of Headquarters Library is coming. So is a publication about the Liberty Point Resolves.

Community members can register by calling 910-483-7727, ext. 1365, or online. People can follow the department's social media pages and check the online calendar at cumberland.librarycalendar.com.

Those wanting updates can sign up for the Local & State History Department's email list. For more information, contact the department at 910-483-7727, ext. 1365, or email localhistory@cumberland.lib.nc.us.
