Full Frame Documentary Film Festival Hitting Durham, North Carolina
The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is kind of a big deal. It’s almost like the Coachella of documentaries, minus the flower crowns. This is where they bring the magic of real life from around the globe right to our doorstep. A jam-packed four days where you can stuff your brain with nearly 100 films. Plus they have sessions, and panels to keep things spicy. It’s all going down in beautiful historic downtown Durham, which is one of my favorite day trip destinations, making it the perfect excuse to enjoy the vibe.
Created by the Center for Documentary Studies, Full Frame has grown from a tiny seed to a must-visit event drawing in the who’s who of the documentary world, thanks to some generous fairy godparents (aka sponsors) like Duke University waving their magic wands as the presenting sponsor.
The Place to Be for Doc Lovers
Full Frame’s mission? Simple: to be the fairy godmother for documentary makers, whether they’re the Spike Lee of documentaries or fresh on the scene. It’s all about creating a cozy corner for conversations that matter, making sure everyone from artists to students to you, yes you sitting on the couch, gets why documentaries are the real MVPs in filmmaking.
Then there’s the Full Frame Road Show which is like the festival’s cooler, road-tripping cousin. It brings free documentary screenings to the Triangle area all year round. Because why should the good times roll only four days a year?
Where the Magic Happens
And let’s talk about the heart of it all – the Full Frame Theater at the American Tobacco Campus. This isn’t just any theater; it’s where the documentary cool kids hang out, not just during the festival but all year round. Plus, if you’ve got something to show, this space is up for grabs to make your event an IYKYK vibe. I am most excited for the free closing night film: LUTHER: NEVER TOO MUCH directed by Dawn Porter!
Good Vibes Only
Full Frame isn’t just about watching films; it’s about building a safe, welcoming space where everyone can geek out over documentaries without any bad juju. Harassment and bad vibes? Left at the door, thanks.
So, if you’re all about diving deep into the stories that shape our world or just looking for some quality screen time that doesn’t involve cat videos and muckbangs, the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is where you need to be this spring.
And don’t forget, Fayetteville has its very own film festival too! The Indigo Moon Film Festival takes place in Downtown Fayetteville every October!
