This Saturday is Veterans Day, a time when Americans honor and show thanks to the military veterans who dutifully served their country in the United States Armed Forces. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are almost 18 million veterans in the United States today. With so many former military members now living as civilians, where are some the best places for them to adjust to life post-service? Apparently, according to new research, the all-time best city for veterans is Fayetteville, North Carolina! A new study conducted by Apartment List found the top 10 best cities for veterans to settle down, and sure enough Fayetteville takes the top spot. The city's proximity to Fort Liberty was cited as a major reason for vets to move there, as its strong military presence "fosters a supportive and understanding community for veterans." The city of Fayetteville also promises financial benefits for military vets as well. Median veteran income in Fayetteville averages out to just over $55,000 a year, with two bedroom rentals starting at $1,257. There are also a plethora of resources for veterans to utilize during their time in Fayetteville, such as the local VA Medical Center and Cumberland County Veterans Services. Fayetteville's vast job market and educational opportunities can also be a major plus for veterans looking to expand their horizons after leaving the service. There's no better way to honor the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans than to ensure a healthy and happy quality of life for them when they transition to civilian life. It does the heart good to know that no place in the country does that better than right here in Fayetteville. So to all military veterans, don't let the ironic nickname of "Fayettenam" fool you. The city of Fayetteville is more than happy to take care of you!
