Fans were taken aback when Stacey Dash posted a video of herself crying and explaining that she just found out that DMX died. The Ruff Ryder icon passed away in April of 2021 from a cocaine-indused heart attack. But Dash was apparently pretty clueless about his death until Wednesday (Aug. 31).

“I was strolling through #tiktok and found a #DMX song that has saved me many times,” she wrote in the caption of her video on Instagram. “Suddenly it says #RIP i know I am late, i did not know he passed away, he #OD I am heartbroken – he was such a great guy.”

She added in the teary-eyed video, “I didn’t know. From a cocaine overdose. I am today six years and one month clean. It breaks my heart that he lost to it. Please don’t lose.”

Last year on Dr. Oz’s show, Dash said that she struggled with an addiction to the pain medication Vicodin, “taking 18 to 20 pills a day” at one point. “I lost everything,” Dash told Oz.

Dash said that her recovery allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of her parents. Her parents also struggled with drug addiction. “The greatest blessing is that not only have I been able to be honest with myself and become a better person. I’ve been able to understand my parents and that they did love me, and that they were doing the best they could and they were just sick. They were addicted.”

But after Dash’s post, people began to flood the comment section with reactions. Actor Tyrese wrote, “Ain’t no way this is real.” Other fans commented, “Is this a joke?” and begged the actress to “Please delete this.” (To learn more about DMX, check out last year’s documentary, DMX: Don’t Try To Understand).
