South Carolina Sculpture Park Named #2 Best in America
It’s always a good feeling when a local, South Carolina place gets some attention and national recognition. We have so many great attractions here in South Carolina, so the world should know. Now, one popular readers’ poll has named a South Carolina sculpture park the No. 2 best in the entire country.
The honor is part of USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. “Discover the allure of open-air artistry at these 10 sculpture parks and gardens. Selected by an expert panel and voted by readers as the best across the United States,” the publication states. “These captivating spaces blend the beauty of nature with the ingenuity of human creation. (They offer) visitors a unique journey through large-scale masterpieces set against the backdrop of the American landscape.”
Before we get to No. 1, let’s look at which park landed just ahead of us. It’s Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s one of the top attractions for the state, when it comes to gardens and sculptures. “Spanning 158 acres in Grand Rapids, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park hosts outdoor gardens and a five-floor, 15,000-square-foot Tropical Conservatory,” USA Today boasts.
So, which South Carolina spot is getting the honored? Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet landed at No. 2 on the list. “Founded in 1931, the 300-acre Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, is part sculpture garden and part wildlife sanctuary, occupying the site of four former rice plantations,” the outlet states. “This National Historic Landmark hosts one of the best American figurative sculpture collections in the world.” It’s so great to see Brookgreen topping a list like this. Moreover, it was a readers’ choice list, so it means visitors are loving the spot. No. 3 on the tally was Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park in University Park, Illinois.
