‘Harry Potter’ Is Resurfacing – This Fandom Is Getting A New Push
And no, it’s not just because Drake is looking to buy a $160,000 First Edition J.K. Rowling masterpiece.
For those of you who feel slightly nerdy all the way to full-blown Potterheads, the Wizarding World is going AR with the same folks who brought you ‘Pokemon Go.’
Niantic released a blog announcing the AR Mobile Entertainment game soon to be released called ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ where players will be able to explore their neighborhoods and fight legendary beasts, and also battle powerful enemies with their wizard cohorts.
It will be on their Niantic platform, which, if you’ve followed ‘Pokemon Go’ at all, is derived from a game called ‘Ingress.’ The platform is basically the same, only instead of the portals, those are your PokeStops.
If Niantic plays the same setup grid, using the same as what was ‘Ingress’ and now ‘Pokemon Go,’ it will be up to you to decide which nerd you truly are, and which program you should be playing. It also means there will be a resurgence of people playing the games outside, which, as we learned last time when ‘Pokemon Go’ was launched, could cause a little bit of chaos, not to mention a lot of angry or annoyed adults who call the cops on players because they’ve lost their sense of magic. As of right now, there are no specific details on what you will be able to do on the platform, but our best guess is that you will be fighting beasts from ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them,’ as well as battling some of the baddies from the Harry Potter book and movie series. The only thing we can hope is somehow Niantic works with J.K. Rowling on this app, and sets up a sorting hat situation to determine your “teams” via houses, rather than just choosing what team you’re on, like in ‘Pokemon Go.’
