If you're planning to send your child to school in North Carolina on Wednesday, May 16, you may want to check with your school district to see if class is still in session.

According to Spectrum News, many school districts have opted to cancel school on Wednesday due to a teacher shortage.

The shortage is a result of a rally planned at the General Assembly.

Many school districts around the state have received requests from the teachers they employee to have the day off.

This has led to thousands of teacher's marking off for the day.

Due to the high demand of absences, it was easier for many districts to cancel school for the day, rather than to employee substitute teachers.
