WBTV and WCNC are tweeting that a landslide or mudslide developed along mile marker 67 on Interstate 40.
At this time, multiple people are believed trapped in their vehicles on the Interstate.
The roadway is currently closed in both directions on I-40.
It is not known when the Interstate will reopen.
Schools openings in the area will be delayed for two hours on Wednesday morning.
No other details about rescue efforts or injuries were known, however, much of Old Fort, North Carolina, is believed to be under water. First Responders are currently working to evacuate residents.
