Mike WiLL-Made It hates modern Hip Hop. So much so, the multi-platinum producer took to X (formerly Twitter), to air out his grievances with the genre.

He revealed that he is fed up with what he sees as a lack of originality in today’s music. “sick of hearing remakes , nothing like original s—,” he wrote. In another post, he added, “please dnt feature on your classic remake, it’s a pet peeve of mine [sad face, fingers crossed emoji].
When a fan countered that labels were largely to blame for creating “lazy samples,” Mike WiLL put the responsibility back on the artists. “the labels dnt care about that because they are distribution companies , they just put the s— on the shelf…,” he replied. “its on the production company or the independent artist… a major record label don’t care what is made & not supposed to either. Their mission is to get it on the shelf and come with marketing to get it to sell off the shelf.”
Artists Who Sampled Classic Songs
In both the top 40 and hip-hop, the rise of the use of classic song samples is evident. Songs that come to mind include Bebe Rexha and DJ David Guetta’s “I’m Good (Blue)” using Eiffel 65’s “A Decade in Blue (Da Ba Dee),” Megan Thee Stallion using Gwen Stefani’s “What You Waiting For?” in “BOA,” Coi Leray’s hit track “Players” samples Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “The Message.” Leray was also recently featured on Anne-Marie and David Guetta’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” a song that samples Haddaway’s 1993 track, “What Is Love.”

Funnily enough, earlier this year, the super-producer worked with Leray on “Wanna Come Thru” and is set to produce an EP with her with the help of Rae Sremmurd. Leray, 27, shared the cover art in an Instagram post earlier this month, rocking a sexy ruffled white and blue mini set as she leans on a yellow two-door. In the caption, she revealed the project, titled Lemon Cars, will drop on Friday, May 24.
A few weeks ago, the duo dropped another track from the upcoming EP, titled, “Can’t Come Back.” Today, Leray revealed that the EP will feature six songs in total. She added in the Instagram teaser for her new era, “Grateful to say I don’t look like what I been through.” Fans reacted to the new single on Instagram, with a lot of hate in the comments section.
One person wrote, “Who says that?” While another said, “Lol u been rich ur whole life wtf.” For those who don’t know, Coi is the daughter of rapper, media executive, and former co-owner of The Source, Benzino. Other users pointed this out in the comments section adding, “What you been through your dad is a musical artist [laughing emoji] to spoil to drop a real hit song.” Another added, “Yeah…Money helps [shrug emoji, laughing emojis].”
