SIMI VALLEY, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 09: In this image released on November 9, Rihanna attends Rihanna's Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 presented by Prime Video at Allied Studios on November 08, 2022 in Simi Valley, California; and broadcast on November 9, 2022.

As of 2023, Rihanna is worth more than $1.4 billion according to Forbes. By now, if you’ve been watching RiRi’s career, you know that all of her money does not come from her music. Rihanna has put her hands in many pots in order to get to where she is today.

However, music is a large part of who Rihanna is.  Her distinct voice and fashion sense helped to make her one of the biggest stars in the world. Rihanna began her music career in the early 2000s when Jay-Z signed her to Def Jam while he was the president of the label. She released her debut breakout hit “Pon De Replay” in 2005. The song is from her debut album Music of the Sun, released that same year.

Since her debut, the singer has released seven other studio albums: A Girl Like Me, Good Girl Gone Bad, Rated R, Loud, Talk That Talk, Unapologetic, and her latest album Anti, which was released in 2016. She has won nine Grammys and has had 33 nominations in her music career thus far.

Her most recent performance was at the Super Bowl earlier this year. And while Rihanna she didn’t get paid for that (Super Bowl Halftime performers are never paid), she was able to use her moment to capitalize on her makeup brand Fenty Beauty when she used her Invisimatte Blotting Paper midway through her set.

Rihanna has also adapted her businesses to reflect what is her current lifestyle. The 34-year-old just welcomed her second child with boyfriend A$AP Rocky. The two had their first child, a son, in May 2022. She has since started a collection prior to the arrival of her second child on maternity clothes and underwear for her lingerie brand Savage X Fenty.

Rihanna’s reign is not letting up anytime soon. There will reportedly be an expansion of her Fenty empire as the entrepreneur has already trademarked Fenty Hair, Fenty Kids, which will be Rihanna’s first step into those industries.

During her Super Bowl conference, the Bajan singer excitedly shared how really loves the business aspect of her brands.

“I really get involved with every aspect of anything I do, whether it’s the Super Bowl, whether it’s a makeup product, whether it’s Savage lingerie, like, whatever I do, I’m that annoying girl who’s gonna talk about everything. I want to see the copy on the website! I want to name every lipstick that I make. I care about it. I love it. I love it, I really do.”

Take a look below on how she achieved her billion-dollar empire:

  • Fenty Beauty

Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in 2017 with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey (LVMH), whom she co-owns it with. The makeup brand gained popularity and notoriety for pushing beauty standards and offering inclusivity in an industry that was not prioritizing people of deeper skin tones. One of Fenty Beauty’s first products, the Pro Filt’R foundation, launched with 40 different shade ranges and since has expanded to 50 alongside its concealer companion.

The cosmetics brand is worth 2.8 billion, according to Forbeslast estimation.

Besides the official Fenty Beauty website, the makeup brand is sold in stores and online at Sephora and Ulta Beauty.

  • Fenty Skin

After the success of Fenty Beauty, Rihanna launched Fenty Skin which is all about taking care what is underneath your Pro Filt’R foundation. She launched the brand in 2020. Fenty Skin sells products such as facial cleansers, face masks, moisturizers, and more. The skincare brand is underneath the Fenty Beauty umbrella so an exact percentage of the brands’ worth is not disclosed but within the first week, the line made $100 million in sales per Latana.

  • Savage X Fenty

Savage X Fenty is Rihanna’s lingerie brand that launched in 2019. While the superstar has stepped down as CEO, she still owns 30% of the lingerie line. The company is valued at more than $3 billion, per Bloomberg. She also has a yearly show called Savage X Fenty Show through her partnership with Amazon Prime. The fashion show’s premise is to spotlight the brand’s new designs for the upcoming season. In 2022, the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Choreography For Variety Or Reality Programming.

  • Music/Entertainment Industry

While Rihanna has not released an album since her 2016 Grammy-nominated Anti, music has still helped her pocket some money to add to her Fenty fortune. Since Rihanna doesn’t have songwriting credits for a majority of her hits, she has made the most money touring. For her 2016 Anti World Tour, Rihanna made $25 million deal with her partnership with Samsung. In 2013, Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour made $140 million in ticket sales which became the highest-grossing of the year.

Rihanna has also used her acting skills in several films over the years. The singer had her acting debut in 2006 in the movie Bring It On: All or Nothing and has also been seen in Oceans 8, Home as a voice actor, Battleship, and more. Her salaries for these films have not been publicly disclosed.

  • Brand Deals & Partnerships

Before she had her own beauty brand, Rihanna has had partnerships with CoverGirl, and Mac Cosmetics. She has also been partnered up with Puma since 2014. While she hasn’t had a collection with the shoe brand since 2018, earlier this year they announced that Rihanna is back.

Rihanna has had a hand in the fashion world for years. She’s worked with fashion houses such as Balmain, Gucci, Dior (which she was the first Black ambassador according to Essence.) She recently was the face of Pharrell Williams’ first campaign for Louis Vuitton under his new role as creative director of Louis Vuitton Menswear.

Rihanna is also the part owner of Tidal which was founded by Jay-Z. Tidal is reportedly worth $100 million according to Forbes.
