R. Kelly’s Former Crisis Manager Retracts Statement About Leaving His Daughter With Singer
Darrell Johnson, R. Kelly’s former crisis manager has now retracted the statement that he made on CBS News saying that he wouldn’t leave his daughter with Kelly, who has been accused of creating a scheme to exploit young girls sexually.
Johnson recently told CBS This Morning’s Gayle King, “I would not leave my daughter with anyone that’s accused of pedophilia,” prior to stepping down as the troubled singer’s crisis manager.
Johnson has now spoken with TMZ to change his statement and to also clarify the reasoning behind him resigning as Kelly’s crisis manager, which he claimed he did for “personal reasons.”
“I’ve had some personal issues back at my hometown. I decided at this particular time it was best to step away,” Johnson told TMZ.
“One of my family members is on their death bed right now and I’m going to go and tend to that… I have nothing against Gayle or CBS. Nothing at all. I just think that when you do a taped interview it can be chopped up. My words are my words.”
Johnson went on to say that he would actually trust R. Kelly around his daughter.
“If I had to do it again, I would 1000 percent leave my daughter, which this is not what this is about, with Mr. Kelly if I had to leave,” he explained.
“The first time he was judged, they said he was acquited. The second time in 2008, he was acquited. But I don’t want to get too much into the case. But I can tell you point back Mr. Kelly has declared his innocence again and I believe he’ll be acquited again.”
Next month, Kelly is slated to appear in court in Brooklyn to face new sex crime charges. For more than two decades, the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer has been accused of sexually exploiting women and girls, which the singer has denied. The singer and songwriter is currently being in held in a Chicago jail without bond.
