Kanye West Made Gwen Stefani Cry With His Gospel Version Of No Doubt’s ‘Don’t Speak’
Someone pass Gwen Stefani the tissues — like all of them. After hearing Kanye West’s version of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak,” she definitely needs them.
At Kanye’s Sunday Service, a super-secret concert series that channels ‘Ye’s spiritual side, he debuted his cover of the Tragic Kingdom track. With help from a gospel choir, he turned “Don’t Speak” into a Bible-thumping anthem about God’s love. Keeping the melody, he changed the lyrics for this “Don’t Speak” — renamed “Lord Speaks” for this occasion.
Now, the song’s all about looking for forgiveness from a higher power. “Lord speak, we know your words bring healing / the pain was real we’re feeling / please help us ’cause it hurts,” the choir sings.
“My goodness my heart is so full hearing this incredible version of Don’t Speak/Lord Speaks,” Stefani wrote on Instagram. “I’m in shock hearing this song turned into a worship song at Kanye’s Sunday Service – I literally started crying.”
After thanking Kim Kardashian for sharing, Stefani had one final request. “Please send me whole version Kanye,” she captioned the video. Let’s assume No Doubt fans definitely second that emotion.
