Colin Kaepernick: Is His Latest Instagram Post A Response To The Jay-Z/NFL Deal?
On Sunday, Colin Kaepernick took to Instagram to shout out to his “brothers” who “continue to fight.”
The football player shared photos of fellow NFL players, Eric Reid, Kenny Stills, and Albert Wilson on the turf kneeling.
“My Brothers @e_reid35 @kstills @ithinkisee12 continue to fight for the people, even in the face of death threats,” he wrote as his caption.
“They have never moved past the people and continue to put their beliefs into action.”
“Stay strong Brothers!!!,” Kaepernick concluded.
Some of Kaepernick’s 3.4 million followers took the Instagram post as shade towards rapper Jay-Z due to his recent partnership with the NFL, and that it was a reference to Jay-Z’s comment that “I think we have moved past kneeling.”
The Brooklyn rapper’s partnership followed his criticism of the league due to Kaepernick facing backlash after he began kneeling during the American National Anthem as a way of protest against police brutality.
“How the hell Eric Reid gonna get mad at Jay but he’s still in the NFL collecting checks smh,” one follower wrote.
Another wrote, “Support Kaepernick & Jay Z efforts. Two things can be different & good for us. Malcolm & Martin Luther King Jr. had different methods but they shared the same goals ultimately.”
“What is kneeling accomplishing? Jay-Z is taking action. yes it’s a business deal, is also using it to provide resources and action to the disenfranchised communities. Why is that a bad thing? I’m asking an honest question,” another IG user commented underneath Kaepernick’s post.
