Back in June, Paige posted a photo on her Instagram of a sign at the Laemmle Royal Theater in L.A. reading, “Taylour Paige, Kendrick Lamar, We Cry Together, Short Film.” The actress captioned the photo, “Where the hypocrites at?”
According to the theater’s site Laemmle.com, the film had been billed as, “A performance from Taylour Paige and Kendrick Lamar, ‘We Cry Together.’” The film made its debut on Thursday (June 9).

Kendrick accompanied the song with a video; in the clip, the rapper’s face morphs into several deepfakes, including OJ Simpson, Will Smith, Jussie Smollett, Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, and Nipsey Hussle. In each verse, he raps touches on a personal topic related to the Black celebrity. When he’s Ye he raps about West’s struggle with bipolar disorder and for Hussle, he speaks about the Compton rapper’s untimely death in 2019.
“The Heart Part 5,” is the latest installation of his “The Heart” singles series and his first song as a lead artist since 2017. The tracks have always arrived prior to the release of a larger project.
