Tory Lanez Seeking Release On Bail
Tory Lanez (born Daystar Peterson) is seeking to be released from jail after he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. According to legal reporter Megan Cuniff, Lanez is set to appear in court today (Sept. 14) for a bail motion appeal.
Lanez’s lawyer Crystal A. Morgan, filed a motion in August asking for her client to be released on bail. She says it’s because his son and wife rely on him. Morgan argues that if Lanez is released, he can continue his career as a rapper and singer. This will help him provide for his family.
Entertainment lawyer Michael Freedman told Cuniff that Lanez’s chances of the motion being approved are low.
“Generally, to get bail pending appeal, you have to show a substantial likelihood of prevailing on appeal, which often means a substantial likelihood you can show error by the trial judge. So it’s pretty rare for the trial judge to find the defense can make this showing about the same judge’s own rulings, especially after the judge has already denied post-trial motions raising those same arguments.”
Life Behind Bars
After his sentencing, a report was released on what Lanez’s life is like behind bars. According to TMZ, “he only gets two hours outside of his cell every day” and “only gets three hours of fresh air per week.”
He released a statement addressing his family, friends, and fans following the sentencing.
Tory’s statement read: “In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of,” Tory wrote on Instagram. “I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do. I’ve faced adversity my whole life and every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top. This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. To my family, friends, and umbrellas thank you for your continued support. See you soon.”
