Jay-Z Made In America Festival Canceled For 2nd Year In A Row
JayZ’s Made in America Festival has been canceled for the second year in a row. The festival is held over Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia.
“Made in America will not take place in 2024. Since its inception, this groundbreaking festival has celebrated music & community – from creating a space for fans to connect, to uplifting local small businesses & shining a light on important causes. It has strived for accessibility, eliminating barriers through affordable tickets and location,” the statement began on the festival site’s page.
“As purveyors of change, the Made In America executive production team is reimagining a live music experience that affirms our love and dedication to music and the work we do. We promise an exciting return to the festival.”
The festival was founded in 2012 by the hip-hop icon, and this cancelation marks the third cancelation ever, with the first cancelation being in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the festival, which is hosted at Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Parkway, was canceled “due to severe circumstances outside of production control,” the statement read at the time. “This decision has been difficult and has not been made lightly nor without immense deliberation.”
Last year, the announcement came one month before the festival was set to begin. At the time, it already announced SZA and Lizzo as the headliners with a special joint set from Mase and Cam’ron. Ice Spice, Metro Boomin, Doechii, Miguel, Tems, Coi Leray, Latto, Lola Brooke, Coco Jones, and Lil Yachty were also on the bill.
The Made In America Festival Canceled: What Is Jay-Z Up To Now?
The last public appearance Jay-Z made was his speech at the Grammys when he accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. He used his time on stage to call out The Recording Academy for continuously snubbing Beyoncé for Album of the Year.
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady. But she has more Grammys than anyone and has never won Album of the Year,” Jay said about his wife, Beyoncé. She won her 32nd Grammy last year. “So even by your own metrics, it doesn’t work.”
This is not the first time Jay-Z has criticized the Grammys. He boycotted the award show back in 1999 despite his album Hard Knock Life receiving best rap album. He has spoken out against it in his music.
“Tell the Grammys f— that 0-for-8 s—! Have you ever seen the crowd going apeshit,” he raps on the track. The line was in reference to his 2017 LP 4:44 which was nominated for eight Grammys. Coincidentally, despite Jay calling out the Grammys, the song scored a nomination for Best Music Video. Jay and Beyoncé’s joint album Everything Is Love won Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.
