Cardi B Hints At Album Title With New Trademark Filings
Cardi B might have a few titles in mind for her upcoming album, at least if her recent filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office are any indication. TMZ discovered that late last month, Cardi’s company, Washpoppin, Inc., applied for trademarks on two phrases, specifically intending to use them for “Pre-recorded record albums featuring music,” among other related uses.
The phrases in question are “Defamation of character” and “Intrusive thoughts.” In addition to albums, Cardi also aims to use these phrases for music videos, “downloadable music files,” and more.
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, titles of creative works, such as songs, books, poems, albums, and films, cannot be copyrighted. The closest protection available is through trademarks, which can apply in certain cases, like when the title is part of a product line that includes trademark protection.
While Cardi has been working on possible album names, she’s also been addressing rumors about her finances.
In a since-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (August 4), the rapper responded to a tweet where a user shared screenshots from an article by British tabloid The Sun, suggesting she might be millions behind on her mortgage. The user also questioned Cardi’s financial health.
“First of all, The Sun is posting rumors that y’all are making up and sending blind items about… that’s why it’s NO DOCUMENTS, just word of mouth,” she wrote. “Everybody gets a loan to buy a house and I never been behind on any of them.. i bought my house in 2021 and put almost 12 million in it now look how much I got left.”
“I’m very responsible with money, my bills come before luxury and I just spent 400 thousand on jewelry this month because I also still know how to BUDGET… stop playin wit me.”
The rapper also included screenshots of text messages from someone who appears to be her publicist or manager, discussing the headline in The Sun. As of now, the article that prompted Cardi’s response seems to have been taken down.
According to Page Six, the soon-to-be mother of three made a similar post on Monday (August 29), in response to rumors that she and Offset were trying to sell their Atlanta home “amid a ‘secret’ financial crisis.”
The rapper took to Instagram to confirm the news of being pregnant with baby number three on Thursday, August 1. The news comes shortly after the rapper filed for divorce from husband Offset.
