I never thought hip hop would be pondering who’s the greatest emcee again back when Jay-Z said “who’s the greatest MZ biggie Jay-Z or Nas” he literally explains later on that he was manifesting. He was setting the tone for the future he was letting us know that he was going to be one of the greats. Still recently shots have been fired at both Drake and J. Cole via none other than Kendrick Lamar. The tactic made you not only wonder what’s the backstory of the beef with the Big Three, but who in fact is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to the Millennial Hip Hop generation?
Years ago when Drake J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar were starting out in rap we all knew they had talent but it seems that their collective careers have actually created subgenres within rap culture you literally are going to have a three-way split in hip hop if you try to poll people now.
Generally you’re in the lane of liking the J. Cole, Earthgang, Dreamville music. Or you’re in the lane of liking the Drake, with Future, and all of the more mainstream hip hop. Then there is Kendrick lane and you like people who are gonna break barriers set new trends surprise you every single time!
So who do we pick? Let me preface this with I am writing this from the Ville inside the great state of North Carolina and one of the contestants just so happens to be THEE J. Cole. Personally I think Cole has mastered the art of balancing humility with bravado. I’ll leave it there. Still I have give Drake and Kendrick their flowers because they are super talented artists as well. Which is why I decided to dedicate today’s playlist to some of my favorite songs from all three amazing artists. We’ll start it off with one of my favorite J. Cole songs of all time!
