‘Captain Marvel’ Earns $153M in Opening Weekend
In the face of all of the annoying trolling, Captain Marvel stood atop the box office in its opening weekend.
Per Box Office Mojo, the Brie Larson-led film grossed $153M domestically and a whopping $455M worldwide making Captain Marvel the third-highest March opening of all-time and the fifth largest film opening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU.)
The is the first film in the MCU to star a female superhero, and compared to the 2017 DC hit Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel managed to outgross by over $50M. (Wonder Woman grossed $100.5M in its opening weekend.)
The next test for Captain Marvel will come in the following week’s box office numbers and how much of a drop in gross there will be, but with all of the attention Goose the Cat has been receiving, don’t be surprised if the second-week drop isn’t as much as expected.
If there’s one thing most people can rally behind besides a comic book movie, it’s a comic book movie that also features a scene-stealing cat.
