Black Superhero Line, Milestone Comics To Return In 2021
Milestone Comics, an imprint of DC Comics that featured all Black superheroes, is returning next year. DC made the announcement over the weekend at their Comiccon-type event, DC Fandome.

The Milestone imprint was founded in 1993 by the late comics legend Dwayne McDuffie along with Denys Cowan, Michael Davis and Derek Dingle. (Hip-hop fans might recognize Cowan’s name: he drew the cover to GZA’s classic 1995 album, Liquid Swords). Sadly, Milestone shut down in 1997. One of the characters, Static (also known as Static Shock), lived on as a member of the Teen Titans; he also had his own animated TV series. But most of Milestone’s characters (including Icon, Rocket and Hardware) have lain dormant for two decades.
Rumors of a Milestone revival have circulated for five years, and now the characters will finally begin to return next year. The Washington Post reports that Milestone’s relaunch will begin with a new digital-only series starring Static Shock in February. Later in 2021, Milestone will publish a Static Shock original graphic novel written by veteran Hollywood director and producer Reggie Hudlin and drawn by Kyle Baker. Meanwhile, Denys Cowan will illustrate a new series featuring Icon and Rocket.
On September 12, fans attending the second part of DC’s Fandome event will have 24 hours of digital access to “Milestone Returns” No. 0, an introductory point for new readers that will also have references to the original series. From September up until the February return, Milestone will gradually release digital versions of its archived library of comics, which were previously only available in print.
